Job Description

Job Summary Delta Utilities is seeking a Gas Service Technician who performs company field operations including manual labor and other duties necessary to accomplish the installation, repair, and maintenance of natural gas distribution facilities. Handles customer requests and represents the company in the community. Please note: We are seeking someone who lives within a 10-mile radius or is willing to relocate within 30 days of hire to Forest, MS or Newton, MS, to service our customers in those areas. This position will have up at least 50%-75% travel daily to our customer locations within our Louisiana work territory. There will be no "out of business area" travel. A company vehicle will be provided. This position also commutes to work from their home address. Meaning when you leave home to head to work, you report to the first order of the day. You would only need to report to our nearest work office location, as requested. Accountabilities and Essential Functions Initiates gas service and perform leak investigations and repairs. Locates gas lines. Reads gas meters. Conducts load surveys. Completes work orders in system for documentation. Serves as First Responder in emergency situations. Conducts Cathodic Protection system monitoring activities. Conducts odorization activities. Minimum Requirements Minimum Education Requires a high school education or GED for any level Service Tech listed below. Minimum Experience Service Tech I: Requires no prior work experience. Service Tech II: Requires a minimum of two (2) years' experience in gas distribution or related field. Service Tech III: Requires a minimum of five (5) years' experience in gas distribution or related field. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (Preferred) Understand drivers of profitability. Certificates / Licenses None Physical Requirements Able to exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or a minimal amount of force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects. Able to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, reach, climb stairs and ladders, and crawl in confined spaces such as attics or crawl spaces. Able to exert routine physical effort on a regular basis. Able to use a variety of hand and/or power tools. Able to operate a motor vehicle and the ability to enter and exit vehicle unassisted. Working Conditions Perform other job-related duties as assigned, within your scope of responsibilities. Job duties are performed in a normal and clean office environment with normal noise levels. Work is predominately done while standing or sitting. The ability to comprehend, document, calculate, visualize and analyze are required. Able to work daily in all types of weather conditions. Able to work regular hours, with occasional overtime. Able to handle emergency situations, including possible exposure to gaseous atmospheres on occasion. Able to work rotating shifts, if required. Able to respond to emergency calls and/or callouts and occasionally return to work while off duty. Able to wear and operate personal protective equipment, such as respirator, safety glasses, hardhat, gloves, protective footwear and earplugs daily. Able to be included in random drug screen pool required for DOT drivers and DOT safety sensitive positions. May be required to remain in the service area during emergency events and assume responsibilities assigned by the company to aide in restoration efforts. Notice As a safety sensitive position, compliance with Department of Transportation (DOT) and Pipeline & Hazardous Materials Safety Administration (PHMSA) drug and alcohol regulations is required, including but not limited to pre-employment drug testing and background screening.
