POSITION DESCRIPTION
Title: General Helper
Purpose: This position is responsible for the cleaning and upkeep of the vehicles and/or the facility.
Position reports to: Quality Control Inspector or Maintenance Supervisor on duty
Principal Job Functions:
- Report to work daily at assigned time -
- Cleans company vehicles -
- Carries supplies, including broom, mop, bucket of water
- Climbs up and down steps to enter and exit
- Picks up trash, lifting, bending, reaching under seats
- Carries bags of trash from one vehicle to the next; throws full trash bags into trash buggy
- Sweeps floor, including twisting, reaching below waist, moving side to side
- Washes windows, including reaching above waist, waist level
- Cleans seats, including bending to wash sitting area
- Washes ceilings of vehicles, including reaching above head, moving arms side to side
- Dusts dashboard, including reaching around farebox
- Mops floor, including inserting mop into wringer, pushing handle to wring mop, moving mop from side to side, pushing, pulling
- Climbs ladder to wash vehicles
- Drives vehicles around the parking and servicing area
- Cleans facility -
- Picking up trash, bending, reaching, carrying trash bag
- Sweeping floor, pushing broom, moving side to side
- Directing mop bucket (on wheels), lifting bucket to empty water; inserting mop into wringer, pushing handle; mopping floor, moving side to side; using floor scrubber machine
- Steam cleaning bus parts, including picking up radiators, batteries, other parts weighing approximately 50-60 lbs; loading and unloading onto pallets
- Moving furniture, tables, boxes, supplies; including lifting, pushing, pulling objects weighing approximately 100 lbs.
- Moving 55 gallon drums of cleaning solutions, using 2-wheel dollies
- Changing bus tires, including maneuvering tires weighing 200-300 lbs; twisting and lifting to get into position; using tire impact gun weighing approximately 15 lbs, which causes vibration when in use
- Empties trash out of trash buggy, including reaching down into buggy and lifting large capacity trash bags (to fit 55 gallon drums)
- Lifts and empties oil and antifreeze drain pans (weighing approximately 50-85 lbs)
- Upkeep of property -
- Picks up trash
- Cuts grass, using push mower
- Uses weed eater
- Follows company safety rules -
- Uses appropriate equipment
- Reports unsafe vehicle condition
- Notifies supervisor of safety hazards in shop

- Attend work daily for assigned schedule
- Maintain effective working relationships with co-workers and customers
- Work any shift, and overtime as needed
- Works with little supervision
- Work in any weather conditions
- Must possess valid Commercial Drivers License and be able to operate all company vehicles
- Follow all traffic laws
- Practice all safety rules
- Follow written and verbal instructions
- Read and understand manuals and data sheets
- Complete reports
- Meet deadlines
