News Reporter, Daily News/News Monitor

Wahpeton, North Dakota

The Daily News/News Monitor is seeking a curious, community-driven News Reporter to join our award-winning newsroom in beautiful Wahpeton, North Dakota.

This position offers the opportunity to cover a wide range of meaningful stories for two publications: the Wahpeton Daily News and the News Monitor , which together serve Richland County, ND, and Wilkin County, MN. Both papers have a strong print presence, robust websites, and successful email newsletters.

We’re looking for a reporter who can spot compelling stories, report with accuracy and depth, and produce clean, engaging copy on deadline. This is an ideal opportunity for an early-career journalist looking to grow quickly in a collaborative environment, or a more experienced reporter seeking to reconnect with local, impactful journalism.

What You’ll Do

• Report on a variety of beats, including public safety, government, education, and community features
• Write for both print and digital platforms, including newsletters and social media

• Take photos and video to accompany stories

• Collaborate with a tight-knit, four-person newsroom and communicate across departments

• Build sources and foster strong relationships throughout the community

• Participate in newsroom planning and occasional community engagement events

Compensation and Benefits

This is a full-time position with benefits including medical and vision insurance and a 401(k) retirement plan.
